In 2024, a wave of protests swept through Kenya. Triggered by a controversial proposed finance bill, the movement has evolved into a broader campaign for more accountable governance in the country. Some demand the entire government’s resignation. The Kenyan police drew strong criticism for repeatedly lobbing tear gas at protesters and charging them with batons, responding with live fire. On 26 June, the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights reported that 39 people had been killed in the protests since they began. Learn more from Meron Elias here. The text of this design was inspired by Senator Edwin Sifuna during an interview where he asked this famous question.
